Effect of Support Properties on Selective Butanediols Production from Erythritol using Ir/ReO _x Catalysts

This study reports the selective obtaining of butanediols (BDO), widely used in polymer and synthetic rubber industry, by C?O hydrogenolysis erythritol. The effect support on catalytic activity selectivity to BDO was exhaustively studied using Ir/ReOx catalysts supported SiO2, Al2O3, activated carbon, CeO2, TiO2 ZrO2. were thoroughly characterized it found that physicochemical, redox acidic properties supports notably influenced metal dispersion, reducibility species particle sizes. most active catalyst Ir/ReOx/TiO2 (maximum yield 53 %), favoring minimizing C?C scissions dehydration reactions. superior performance attributed formation small clusters with an intimate contact between Ir partially oxidized Re (mainly Re+IV) favors appropriate adsorption erythritol ReO2 further interaction H2 adsorbed Ir0 render BDO.
